Best Malaysian Pair for The Simon Marais Mathematics Competition

The Simon Marais Mathematics Competition has been organized for the first time on 07 October 2017. The competition, funded by the Simon Marais Foundation and with the support from the Australian Mathematics Society, is an undergaduate mathematics competition, inspired by the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, for the region of Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific. 34 universities from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand have participated in this competition. All the participants sit for the competition at their respective universities.
 
USM has 17 students (5 pairs, 7 individual) participated in this competition. The pair consisting of Mr. Tan Qi Huan dan Mr. Chan Mun Chun from USM has emerged as the best pair among all the participating pairs from Malaysia, and also ranked the 8th among all participating pairs. Pertandingan Matematik Simon Marais julung kali dilangsungkan pada 07 Oktober 2017. Pertandingan anjuran Yayasan Simon Marais dengan kerjasama Persatuan Matematik Australia ini merupakan pertandingan matematik peringkat prasiswazah ala pertandingan matematik William Lowell Putnam untuk rantau Australia, New Zealand dan Asia Pasifik. Sebanyak 34 universiti daripada Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore dan Thailand telah menyertai pertandingan kali ini. Peserta menjalani pertandingan tersebut di universiti masing-masing.
 
USM telah menghantar 17 pelajar (5 pasangan, 7 individu) menyertai pertandingan ini. Pasangan USM yang terdiri daripada saudara Tan Qi Huan dan saudara Chan Mun Chun telah muncul sebagai pasangan terbaik dalam kalangan pasangan daripada Malaysia, dan juga berkedudukan tempat ke-8 dalam kalangan semua pasangan peserta dalam pertandingan tersebut.
