A Birth-Death Process Approach
to Constructing Multistate Life Tables
M. Ataharul Islam
Abstract.
The multistate life tables have generated
interest among researchers during the past two decades.
One of the main reasons for such interest is the wide
range of applications addressing real life problems. A
simplified version of constructing multistate life tables
is developed in this paper on the basis of a modified
birth-death process approach. This approach remains simple
even if the number of intercommunicating states increases.
An estimation procedure is also discussed.
