Overview:
He recently joined the School of Mathematical Sciences in 2012 after graduating from Durham University in the field of computer vision.
His current research is in Computer Aided Geometrical Design, Bootstrap and Surface Reconstruction.
During his spare time, he is passionate in doing educational outreach towards under-privileged community.
Selected publications:
1. Ibrahim, F., Misro, M. Y., Ramli A., Ali J. M. : Maximum Safe Speed Estimation Using Planar Quintic Bezier Curve with C2 Continuity. Submitted to: Proceedings of Simposium Kebangsaan Sains Matematik Ke-24 (SKSM24).
An alternative way in estimating design speed or the maximum speed allowed for a vehicle to drive safely on a road is proposed. We use curvature information from Bezier curve fitting on a map. The result is very promising as maximum speed are validated. In this paper, manual adjustment needed to be carried out.
2. Liew, K. J., Ramli, A., Abd. Majid, A. (2016): B-Spline Surface Fitting on Scattered Points, Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences, Vol. 10, No: 1, page 273-281
An interpolation on 3D points is more challenging on 2D data points. This paper discuss the effectiveness of B-spline approximation algorithm in approximating the bicubic B-spline surface from the set of scattered data points which are taken from the scanned 3D object in the form of point sets.Experimental results demonstrate that the scattered data points are better fitted after the modification of the algorithm and the accuracy of the approximated bicubic B-spline surface is easily influenced by the presence of noise.
3. Ramli, A., Ivrissimtzis, I. (2009) Bootstrap Test Error Estimations of Polynomial Fittings in Surface Reconstruction. VMV 2009: 101-112
The work is written during my PhD candidature. We propose the use of the bootstrap technique for estimating the test error in the context of surface reconstruction from noisy point sets. Bootstrap test error estimation is beneficial as it gives verification of a fitting. This is especially important when the data is overfitted or contains outlier. As research proposal require fitting on real data, a statistical approach like Bootstrap Method will be useful.
