USM wins MIMMC2019!
A team from USM beat 55 teams from various universities to emerge as the winner of the Malaysia Industrial Mathematical Modelling Challenge 2019 (MIMMC2019).Associate Prof Dr Teh Su Yean from the School of Mathematical Sciences mentored the winning team of three students from the School of Educational Studies, Lok Chee Hoow (1st year, Biology major), Samuel Sim Shien Shuang (2nd year, Mathematics major) and Cheng Chung Sing (1st year, Physics major).For MIMMC2019, the five successful teams consisted of two teams from USM and one each from UKM, UNIMAS, UiTM. The other USM team was mentored by Dr Nuzlinda Abdul Rahman consisted of students from School of Mathematical Sciences. The winning team walked away with a RM1000 in cash and invaluable experience and fond memory of working together for the competition.MIMMC2019 is a group-based competition that offers experience and challenges that can enhance the participants' intellectual capacity, knowledge and skills in solving problems using mathematical modelling.The participated teams must choose one out of the three posted questions on real world problems and subsequently solve the selected problem using mathematical approaches and formulations within 25 days. Five successful teams was shortlisted to compete at UTM, Johor Bahru to present their work in front of a panel of judges.
